    if the GTM JS is not enqueued the WordPress way, AsyncJS does not “see” it and hence it cannot defer it, which is what is probably happening here skydev2020.

    Autoptimize (also developed by me) does things differently (it works based on the HTML instead of enqueued resources) but if you try that do disable JS (and CSS?) optimization in W3TC.
