• I’ve been uploading images via ftp to my server, because the image uploader in WP didn’t work for a month. Now this issue is solved, I have tens of images that don’t have a thumbnail. I would nevertheless get thumbnails for these, because it makes searching for them on a later moment easier. Is there anyway to force WordPress to check all uploaded images, and create a thumbnail if none is found (so similar to the process that was performed after upgrading from 2.3 to 2.5)?

  • I have a similar issue. I tried the the Add From Server plugin, but this failed to generate thumbnails for me. Is there a way of tapping into WP’s thumbnail generating fuction (I can’t find it anywhere) to do this? Specifically, I would like to write a little script that queries the posts table for images and then inserts these as ‘attachments’, calling the thumbnail generator for each? Is this possible…does anyone know how? Thanks for reading ??

Try the regenerate-thumbnails from viper. I haven’t fully tested it, but it appears to work.

Wow. This plugin did exactly what I needed. Thanks to the google gods for pointing me to this post on my first search, and to Viper for satisfying a very specific need.
