How to create direct download link without plugins

Hi,

1. First upload the file you want the file to link to:
   e.g.: ‘wp-uploads/myExample.jpg’
2. edit the page / post you want to create the link in
3. enter e.g. ‘Download myExample.jpg here’ [or any other text]
4. Select part of the text e.g. ‘here’
5. press the link-icon on top of the edit screen
   a follow-up screen opens
6. enter the url that points to the image:
   https://www.mydomain.com/wp-uploads/myExample.jpg [make sure you use your domain and path correctly]
7. tick the box underneath if you want this to happen in a separate screen
8. click ‘add link’
9. test if it works, change path-settings as needed
