How to create a category?

    I want to create categories for different topics but I’m not sure if I’m doing the right thing. I’m using WP 1.5. I try to add a category in “LINK CATEGORIES” but it doesn’t show up in the site. However, if I added an external URI under a created category then that category shows up?

    What am I doing wrong please?
