• I have a very old webpage that I want to update. (establish in 2007, and updated in 2015)

The original theme is a child of twenty twelve. Main reason for creating a child theme 10 years ago was, to create a header with only a small image, a 3 column front page, to hide login, get rid of comments and to establish a footer divided into 4 columns (Widgets) .

In the existing theme the footer is divided into 4 Widgets, each with a little php code. How do I move these 4 small pieces into the footer of TT3?

I have been working with WP since version 1.5 / 2005, and Gutenberg and blocks have never been my favourite. (My thanks goes to the developers of Classic view plugins.)

I have established a mirror of the page. the link is to the original page.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hi @boldt – similar to your other thread – the fact that Twenty Twenty Three is a new Block theme does mean that some things will work differently.

It won’t be possible to move PHP directly into the template files – but it’s possible the functionality you had within them might be recreatable. Looking at your existing site – it seems that would be the case.

If you were to use Site Editor (support doc linked to in other thread) you can edit your Footer within there.

You could add a Column Block with 4 columns, and then insert the content directly into them.

    Well…

If I go to the Editor, I am able to change to “Code Editor” What is that? What kind of code are we talking about?

Hey @boldt! The code editor here will show the code of the whole page or template. This is basically HTML, with additional syntax in the form of HTML comments and JSON markup. It’s not advised to edit this directly.

For a 4-column footer, you can get a pattern that you like from the pattern directory, and just paste it in your editor. Once you do this, you will be able to edit the content to make it yours.

@kavya many thanks for the link. i will study closely also to find out how to implement the patterns into theme.
