How to creat portfolio post_type="attachment"

Hi,
When generate shortcode with post_type=”attachment”, no items are shown. And says “No taxonomy found under attachment post type”.
I’ve attached media item throuh “add featured image” in a post; also I’ve tried to attach throuh media library “attach” and also I’ve add media throug “add media” button in a post,portfolio item and page.
How does it work?
