As mentioned in the title I am facing problems with Firebox popups creating internal links. As each firebox popup is creating an internal link like https…/firebox/PopupID/, the google crawler wants to index these links. As they don’t link to usable webpages, I would really like to have these links not being indexed, but as it looks to me the only way of doing this is to disallow following them with robots.txt.
Hawing added an disallow statement accordingly I’m now confronted with error messages from googles search console, asking me to fix the problems with noindex-tags.
So what can I do about it?

    Thanks,

    Digi

    Hello Digi,

The reason these pages are created is so you can preview the popups. It doesn’t appear to be a way to allow Preview without having these pages exist.

I assume these pages exist in your sitemap and thus are crawlable by search engine bots. What you can do is exclude the FireBox Popup Custom Post Type from being included in the sitemap and you can delete the records from the Search Console.

We will be looking into whether we can improve this.

    Hello Stergos,

    many thanks for your feedback!

FYI: Using Rank-Math for SEO their sitemap_index.xml lists different category-xml’s for CPT’s with one of them being Firebox. Unfortunately Rank-Math does not list Firebox as a CPT within their dashboard -> “Titles & Meta”, though CPT’s created with jet-engine are, means that there is no way to make Firebox a nofollow as a whole.
Dunno who’s fault that is, but meanwhile I found (deep down on an RM-community page) a way to mark each firebox-page as nofollow. That then empties their firebox-xml. Quite a pain in the… ??

    Regards and thanks again,
    Digi

Ah, and before I forget: Congrats for that few support-threads here. Hope that does not mean that anyone is using this awesome plugin :))
