How to control the category in the permalink?

  • If I create a post and select 2 or 3 categories for it to be posted in, WordPress somehow determines that one of those categories is the one that it uses in the permalink. I have a custom permalink structure like this:

    /%category%/%postname%/

    So, to be clear, if I made a post about apples, pears, and oranges, and put the post in category-apple, category-pear, and category-orange, the /%category%/ part of my permalink gets filled with one of the categories I selected, but I have no control over which one. I want to have this control. How do I do it? It’s very important to me.
