    I’ve tried installing the wp-greet plugin on several sites, including test sites with no other plugins installed, and cannot get it to work. The instructions are 6 years old and difficult to understand, but here’s what I’ve been doing:

    1. Install plugin and adjust settings.
    2. Create a Page with shortcode: [wp-greet] and publish.
    3. Create a post/Page, with a WordPress gallery. Note the ID of that post/Page, say, 123.
    4. Go to admin > wp-greet > Galleries and set the name of the post/Page with that gallery on it, and save.
    5. Create a second post/Page with shortcode: [gallery=123]

    So with that I get:

    A. The [wp-greet] shortcode Page displays a form.
    B. The first post/Page with the WordPress gallery shows a gallery.
    C. The second post/Page with [gallery=123] is blank.

    – What am I missing?
    – Is the plugin broken?
    – Does it not work with the default WordPress gallery?
    – Also, are there any plans to make the plugin responsive?

  • Like you websta I’ve spent a frustrating day trying to configure this almost by guesswork and come up empty. I don’t think it *is* broken, I just can’t get it running right, and without some decent instructions I’m just trying random stuff now. In fairness the plugin author’s English isn’t his native tongue, and I can’t imagine how hard I’d find it to give someone instructions on Worpdress in German!

    I’ve followed pretty much the same steps as you and can get greetings sent by mail, I just can’t get it to put an image in the mail, or to link to an image. I only get the wp-greet form on a PAGE or on a POST that has an image (or more than one image) displayed on it, I can’t get the form to display as a result of clicking on any image, anywhere, whether it be a nggallery image, a single image in a page, or a wordpress native gallery.

    And another vote to make the plugin responsive too please!

    I think I will have to make a youtube video for install instructions and yes, there are plans to make it (more) responsive during the next releases.

    To solve your current problems, just send me an admin access to your site and I will gladly take at look at it.

    Thank you very much for your help. This is the main plugin for ecards on wordpress, so I was confused why I could not make it work.

    How can I send you the login information privately?

    I’m sorry, but I could not find your email address on the site.

    I sent a private message to your Facebook account.

    Hi, the email address is behind the letter icon on the top right. But anyway I got the access data from facebook. But unfortunately it is not an admin access, so I can not see your settings. Can you please turn me into an admin.

    By the way, the hidden gallery seems to work until I am blocked because of your security settings within wp-greet (only admins can send cards)

    I have upgraded the login to super admin.

    The galeries were not connected and the permissions to send a card were set to allow only admins to send cards. After we changed this it worked.

    It works! Thank you very much for your help, Tuxlog.

    For what it’s worth, for anyone else, here is my version of how to install and setup the awesome wp-greet:

    1. Install plugin.
    2. Create a Page with “[wp-greet]” on it, and a link back to your store’s homepage, e.g., “Send another ecard now!” Publish the Page, but leave it out of your menu.
    3. Publish additional Pages/posts, as you like, creating WordPress galleries on each one. Keep these gallery Pages/posts in your menu so people can visit them.
    4. Go to admin wp-greet > Galleries, and click all the galleries you’ve created, and click “Save.”
    5. Check and save settings at admin > wp-greet > wp-greet.
    • For “Gallery plugin,” choose WordPress.
    • For “Form-Post/Page,” choose the first Page you made, the one with “[wp-greet]” on it.
    • For “Mailtransfermethod,” choose SMTP.
    • For “Static Senderaddress” and “Mailreturnpath,” enter an email address you’ve set up for this purpose, e.g., “[email protected].”
    • Leave the BCC line blank.
    • Put a check mark in for “Allow more than one recipient” and “Send image inline.”
    • Leave everything else as is, and click the “Update options” button.
    • Try to send an ecard to yourself or someone else: Go to one of your galleries, and click on one of the images; it should take you to a page with the image you clicked at top, and an email form at the bottom. Send it. If it works, you’re done. Revel in the awesomeness.
    • If it doesn’t send (check your spam filter, etc., to be sure), you may need to adjust a plugin file so the email via SMTP function works. To do that:
    • Go to admin > Plugins > Editor, and at top right select wp-greet to edit.
    • Click to open the file: phpmailer-conf.php (toward the bottom right)
    • The file has three lines to edit. Remove the // marks and change them to look like this:
      $wpg_smtpserver="localhost";
      $wpg_smtpuser="your-email-address-e.g.,'ecard'";
      $wpg_smtppass="your-email-account's-password";

    This is what appears to work for me, YMMV.

    Tuxlog, please note if those instructions are incorrect, or if a better approach is available.

    Great it works now and good step-by-step description.

    Thx.

    Oy! I had this working just fine at one point and for some unknown reason it no longer works. I have boiled it down to just one page with one image in the Wp native gallery.
    url: https://www.ccrt.net/howloween/

    the page with [wp-greet] is Send This Greeting.

    I have followed websta’s step-by-step instructions but simply can’t find my way out of the current mess. I will gladly send you my login info privately if you could see your way clear to helping me out.

    fingers crossed!
