Ever since problems started with the migration from Better WP Security to iThemes Security I have kept the plugin (version 3.6.6.) de-activated on my site.

I would now like to remove it completely. Is simply deleting the plugin enough to avoid any future problems? I read that it leaves a few traces in the database and .htaccess.

If anyone has a tutorial or tips on what’s the best way to remove the plugin, please let me know. Thanks! ??

Anyone? iThemes Support can you please advice. Thanks in advance.

I also want to remove this plugin completely but I made a download of the htaccess and wp-config.php and then accidentally deleted the plugin before restoring the backups.

Xanderj, I think we are on our own, apparently unless you have the paid version of the plugin you don’t get support answers quickly. I am going to guess and back up this info up with my server before doing it. But I think if you made a back up of the htaccess and wp-config.php files, that we can go into the cpanel to the Aiowps files at the core and add the backup ones of those two and then delete the ones iThemes put in there. If there is any support people to confirm this I would appreciate hearing from you.

    Hi,

The settings/data are stored in three different places. The htaccess, wp-config.php and database. In the two files remove all references to iThemes Secuirty/Better WP Security. In the database delete the tables associated with itsec or BWPS. Please make sure you have a backup before making these edits just_in_case.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

Just for the record, I just deactivated and deleted the plugin, and it cleaned out the db on it’s own. Nice work iThemes. I love your products, but am moving the site to a managed hosting account that doesn’t require (nor allow) a security plugin. I did make sure to un-hide my login area before deactivating the plugin to make sure that worked okay; that feature seams to cause a lot of issues for people. Everything went smooth for me though!
