    Hi,

I’ve just purchased a new theme and the first instruction is: Install WordPress (Check your hosting provider, these days there’s often the option to 1-click-install. Don’t install this over a pre-existing database or site. This is a must, you can’t port over old WP installs or databases as our structure is different.)

I want to keep my URL but I am happy to delete all content, is this what the theme requires me to do? How do I reset or create a new database for my website to install this theme?

    I am with GoDaddy

If you already have WordPress installed, you can probably skip that step. Just proceed forward to installing the theme via Appearance -> Themes -> Add New -> Upload in your blog’s Dashboard.

Hi James, thanks for your response,

I would do that however the instructions given say to install the plugins that come with the theme before I install the theme and wordpress won’t let me install them, so I’m guessing this is why the designer distinctly says to start without a pre-existing database

Hm, I would not trust that, at all. What sort of errors do you get when WordPress won’t let you install the plugins?

Also, what is the name of this theme, and where did you get it from?

When I try to upload the plugin folder the error message is ‘The operation couldn’t be completed. Is a directory’.

The theme is called Syndex 2, I purchased it from the designer who released a prelaunch version.

    The full instillation instructions are:
    1) Install WordPress (Check your hosting provider, these days there’s often the option to 1-click-install. Don’t install this over a pre-existing database or site. This is a must, you can’t port over old WP installs or databases as our structure is different.)
    2) Unarchive and add the plugins in the plugins.zip below to the plugins folder found in wp-content (via FTP, or WordPress admin)
    3) Activate all the plugins in the wordpress CMS (if Advanced Custom Fields asks to be updated, do so)
    4) Add the Syndex-2 theme to the theme folder (via FTP or WordPress Admin)
    5) Now, activate the theme in the WP CMS
    6) As it stands be careful not to install more plugin’s as this may effect the theme. Also keep the settings of the plugins as is and don’t deactivate.
Let me know if that works for you and if you have any questions. From there, you can customise things in the Syndex panel.

and the purchase came with a plugins folder and the theme

    Thanks for your help!

(I removed the theme link because there’s nudity on that page, which by the way leads me to trust the quality of the theme even less.)

Ok, the plugin installer only accepts .zip files, not folders. Re-installing won’t change that.

    Here’s what I’d do:

    1. Don’t do this.

    2. Access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/plugins/ and upload each folder in the plugins.zip provided by the theme’s designer.

    3. Do this.

    4. Access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and upload the theme’s folder.

    5. Do this.

    6. Ignore this. If the theme fails because you install more plugins, it’s a terribly coded theme and you should demand a refund immediately.

    7. Bonus step, contact the theme’s designer and let him know that the instructions need to be re-considered.

When I install the theme and activate it the message I get is:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_field() in /home/jasmine143/public_html/wp-content/themes/Syndex2-Prelaunch/functions.php on line 1494

And when I try to install the zipped plugin folder the message is:

    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the plugin…

The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.

    Plugin install failed.

I will contact the theme designer after Christmas, thanks for your help

Just realised I did the zip. folder stage wrong, I will retry

I can’t even get to my dashboard now, the message is just:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_field() in /home/jasmine143/public_html/wp-content/themes/Syndex2-Prelaunch/functions.php on line 1494

Access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and delete the “Syndex2-Prelaunch” directory. This will force the default theme to activate so you can access your Dashboard again.

Hi I have the excat same problem – did you solve it?

    (@jasminej143)

Hey, I downloaded FileZilla, an FTP manager, and accesses and deleted the files from there!

    Thank you…

So you are not using syndex2?

    Thread Starter JasmineJ143

    (@jasminej143)

No, I got a refund, I needed a new database to use it and I couldn’t be bothered to go through the process & found that my current theme was fine anyway

Thanks for confirming your solution! ??
