How To Check if plugin is working correctly with GTM4WP integration

    I have a woocommerce shop so I use GTM4WP to create the necessary datalayer for ecommerce conversion reporting.

    I now want to implement Google Consent V2 so I ticked the GTM4WP integration in the plugins settings and I created the trigger “cookie_consent_update” as descriped in your Option 5 and replaced the “All pages” trigger of the GA4 tag with the trigger.

    I then switched into “Preview” mode in GTM to test the setup. I can’t see any influence of the plugin what so ever. There is no initial consent declared and there is no updated consent declared when I hit the “Accept” button in the pop-up.

    A: How do I test if the plugin is working correctly?

    B: The GA4 tag did not fire which makes no sense with Google Consent V2. Could this hint towards an implementation issue?

    I have no cache on or anything on my staging server. It’s a very standard setup with WordPress/Woocommerce all up to date and the Shoptimizer theme (unmodified).

    Please be so kind as to give me an idea of how to verify the correct working of the plugin or how to troubleshoot it.

    Hello,

    Our GTM4WP integration works with the standard GTM integration, not the Google Consent Mode v2. We have a different setting for that. But if you activate it, we would not recommend using another plugin (such as GTM4WP) and our Google Consent Mode settings at the same time – we recommend choosing one or the other option, not both.

    Perhaps you can experiment with those different options (turning off GTM4WP) and activating only our Google Consent Mode v2 setting and see if that works properly.

    Please note, the Google Consent Mode v2 is an advanced integration method. Your development team should check the integrations and inspect your GTM scripts using Google Tag Assistant to see which tags are fired and how your tags operate.
