• Hello.

Have a local test site to get some feel for wordpress (v5.5.1).

To my current knowledge, uploaded images (media) should automatically be converted to three sizes, as I can see in Media->Settings. Thumbnail, Medium, Large.

If I upload a picture, and want to add it in a post in whatever way, I never get to see the option to choose either size. How can I verify that the resizing actually is working, and where are the files stored/how are the different sizes handled, if inserted in a post as an example?

    Thank you.

  • Hello,
I hope I can help you.

To clarify, how are you adding your images? I’m going to assume with the default WP editor. When you go to add image, you select the one you want, then once on the page, you should see your option in the block settings.

So to be clear, you will not see the different sized in the Media library, they should be offered to use while in the image block.

Here are the image block settings. Selecting Image Size should show you your options.

    Thank you, Kim.

I do upload the images, using media library. And in MediaLibrary -> Settings, there are presets for Thumbnail, Medium, Large. As far as I could research, WP will automatically generate these sizes from the uploaded image. But how can I verify and access those sizes?

The size options within the blocks (25,50,75,100, or pixel specific), as described by you, seems to be independent from the settings in MediaLibrary. If I do modify sizes in the blocks, I wonder if while loading the page, the large (original) file is always loaded, and then downscaled, to let’s say 25%. This would not be very efficient data-usage and speed-wise.

Hope somebody can shed some light, or point me in the right direction.
