One of my wordpress sites got hacked (again) and I want to restore with a back up I have on Google Drive. How can I test my back up for viruses and malware before I restore? FYI: My host said they have a 2 week old back up that is also infected.

    Hi,

You could scan the backup with a virus scanner. Or, if you or your host knows which files in your site were infected, then you can unzip the backup onto your computer, and inspect the same files, to see if they are infected or not.

Any suggested scanners? I have a list of infected files, (mostly wordpress files) I used Panda & Malwarebytes on the infected files but nothing came up.

    Hi,

I don’t have any particular recommendations, no – I’m not that familiar with the current virus scanner market.

Thanks for your response. I just used Panda to scan my files and it seemed to work just fine. Actually, Chrome scanned 3 out of 4 of them when I downloaded the back ups from Google Drive to my laptop. So far so good.
