How to change the upload folder structure of existing content

  • Hi there,

    I have received some not-so-good information from my host regarding the number of images in the uploads folder. They were uploaded into wp-content/uploads/year/month folders, but it appears, that isn’t good enough, because some of the folders have more than 1000 images in them.

    I have downloaded a plugin, Custom Upload dir, which is now creating a new folder for every single day, but it did not have an effect on existing content.

    I am looking for a solution, which would allow me to split the existing folders into subsections, so that the total amount of images in each of them doesn’t go over 500?

    Any solution would is welcomed, eith a plugin, script, or just an idea how to get it done.
