This thread is somehow a special question to Ipstenu (Mika Epstein – great forum mod. here!) It refers to some tips she referencing to here multisite tutorial.

I’d like to change the main site of my network. Scenario is as following: mySite.com is my main site. There are several subsites mySite.com/site1, /site2, /site3 etc. Now, I would like to make the content of mySite.com/site1 to my new main site under mySite.com and moving the content of the latter vice versa to mySite.com/site1.

Well, I know that I could do that by exporting/reimporting the content via the export/import menu. But there is a different approach Ipstenu (Mika Epstein) mention here and here. In one of both posts she is referencing to her tutorial around site 80. But in the current seventh edition there is no site number 80. It stops at 71.

So, how to do that trick?
In addition, what function does have the drop down menu under dashboard (main site) -> my sites -> primary site (or main site – I have a German install, names are different there)? Is this the option I am locking for? But if so, selecting there /subsite1 as my main site doesn’t change anything… What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for dropping some clarifying comment on that topic here, Ipstenu!

Aaah yes the updates of books ??

“Switching The Main Blog” is on page 75 of the latest edition of 110, not 101.

If you just bought 101, let me know and I’ll email you 110.

Ops, I got confused with the numbers! Just bought the 110. Thanks! Your 101 tutorial saved my life ??

Btw, it seems still like a bad idea to install multisite in its own directory. Not only WP gets confused when generating the new network .htaccess and wp-config code but also some security plugins who mess with .htaccess aswell…
I did a fresh install at root level and everything works fine for now!

Well… Security plugins are a different matter. They don’t always understand Multisite in general, and less multisite in its own folder.
