I was hoping there would be a way to do it in my child theme’s function.php file, rather than downloading a plugin just for that.

add_filter( 'gettext', 'custom_my_gettext', 20, 3 );
function custom_my_gettext( $msgstr, $msgid, $domain ) {
  if ($msgid == 'Product' && $domain == 'kadence-woocommerce-email-designer') {
 return 'Item';
}
  return $msgstr;
}

You can use a filter like that ^ plugin does this so just puts an interface to it so it’s easier to use.
