How To Change Redirect URL After Registering

How do I change the $redirect_url to specify where a user goes after they have registered? The plugin is set to go to the login page, but I would rather go to a customized page that has a registration successful message. I have tried altering the $redirect_url var on line 154 of forms.php in the inc folder, but then the user isn’t registered. Thanks in advance for your time and help!
