    Hi there
On my website https://sub.ferien-provence.com (Sydney theme) I defined a page called “new-front-page” as static front page. All subpages (e.g. the page xyz) now have the permalink “sub.ferien-provence.com/new-front-page/xyz”. I know how to change the permalink for the subpage, i.e. to change “xyz” but cannot get rid of “new-front-page”.
I understand that I can rename the new-front-page into something else and that will surely change the permalink of the subpages, but I would like to eliminate the middle part in the permalink completely. Is there any easy way to do this?
    Thanks for your help,
    Rainer

check to see if you may have selected a parent page for any of the other pages you have created.

    Hi Lisa
As far as I can see on the dashboard, I have defined exactly one page as front page and another one as blog. Still possible, though, that the theme has defined yet another front page.
I thought, however, that it is standard WP procedure to automatically omit the name of the front page as permalink, so that you only see the url as permalink, but then to add the name of the front page on the permalink of all subpages. Is that wrong?
    Thanks, Rainer

The solution was to simply redefine the subpages as top level page in the page attributes. Which is not logic but does the trick.

Thanks to this excellent and easy to understand blog I got there:
