How to change banner background color in 2013 theme

  • I am helping a friend with this custom jewelry site. It is the 2013 theme that someone may have customized. Using “Custom CSS” (from Slim Jetpack plugin), I have attempted to change the banner background color (the grey that appears on either side of the banner image) to #fff. I can see the element in firebug and change it there, but cannot get “Custom CSS” to override it. When I inspect element in Firebug, it is div.banner.centered-banner. Any ideas how to change it from #F3F1F1 to #FFF?
