Hello, I’m building a company site on a VirtualBox Ubuntu Server installation, my company has the wired network locked down, so I have to build on host-only which means the server has no internet access so it can’t browse plugins and modules.

I can use a bridged connection when I’m on Wireless which is not locked and this would be acceptable for me, however the problem is my IP address will change each time, and I’d have to edit the database with new IP every single time I want to start the server which would be a huge inconvenience.

Is there a way this can be automated, some other feasible solution, or should I just not waste my time and manually upload zip files of any themes or modules I want to install?

just do it manually. download and unzip the plugins and themes (obviously from a different machine as this is a non-internet connected system) put the files on a pen drive and then move the unzipped files from the pen drive into the right folders on your install.

it’s a bit of a pain but once you get used to doing it you’ll get very quick at doing them

Or set up a local server on a wireless network computer (eg using LAMP, WAMP, XAMP or Desktop Server). Export to the VirtualBox site when it’s completed.

You could use the same method to update themes and plugins when the site goes live, keeping in mind that some updates could also be important bug fixes.
