How to build a page from scratch?

I haven’t used wordpress before. I’ve built sites in Dreamweaver where I can take a page and add tables to design the layout and add images and make them links etc. I’ve never just starred at a blank page like I have here. Is there a tutorial or something somewhere that gives a beginner and idea of how to add images/tables etc. so the page isn’t just text?
