How to break the wp-signup process with Banned Names

  • OK – just letting you know about an issue I discovered which drove me CRAZY for ages and then I worked it out.

    I noticed that all of a sudden my wp-signup.php page would only half load, just the header, then stop. No body could register, the only solution seemed to be to blat it and try again. After doing this 3 times, I decided to do some proper troubleshooting. Anyway, long story short, here is how I broke it.

    I left a trailing space ” ” at the end of the “Banned Names” form.

    I have no idea why this broke it, but if I can save someone a headache then this post was worth it.
