How to block certain post categories from generating an email

I’ve looked all around and can’t find a simple solution to this. I’m new to wordpress so there may be a simple fix. I want to block certain categories from sending an email to subscribers. The only thing I’ve found is the Subscribe2 plugin, but I’m not sure if it is the best solution for my issue, as the only thing I want to do is not send emails for certain posts. I feel like there must be a really obvious solution I’m overlooking.
