how to auto update add-on without effecting other folders

    This is regarding plugin development.
    My plugin is a gallery plugin which uploads images into a folder in the plugin directory.
    when the plugin users auto update the plugin, the current image directory in the plugin directory is getting deleted.

    Is there any solution for it to make auto update without deleting existing folders?
    Just updating files.

    Desperately looking for solution.
