How to assign domain name?!?!?

  • So, I have set up my computer to be a local host, and I have built a website which is at https://localhost/8888 but that only opens when I launch MAMP. So I have built my site using a child theme and now I want to launch it.

    How do I assign my domain to my site?

    I was under the impression I could host my website myself using MAMP and setting my computer up as a local host. Does this mean I can’t and I need a hosting package as well as domain? I have registered a domain yes.

    Hosting your own server at home is not an easy task and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have some experience of server administration.

    Can you suggest any resources to learn this? surely it would save me money as I wouldn’t need to pay for hosting – am I right in thinking this?

    I’d suggest you start looking around some general server hosting forums. The amount of ongoing work that is involved is significant and it’s certainly not something for a beginner.
