How to allow subscribers to choose pages/posts they receive

Is there a way for new subscribers to choose only to receive certain posts/pages updates when they sign up? At the moment, if you click follow then provide your email it just signs you up for everything, as far as I’m aware, so it’d be good to give people the choice to filter it. Any help would be much appreciated.
