How to add Widget on Home Page

But i want to add a widget same as GetInvolved widget at
https://cloudsecurityalliance.org/ in the side widgets.

They use a custom (self designed theme) and it is not apparent what WP functionality creates the output, as far as I can see…there are calendar/events plugins, but I cannot suggest one as I don’t use them.

The problem i am facing is that being admin, my dashboard is not showing “Appearance tab” and therefore i am not being able to do anything on widgets.
What is the problem behind not showing up appearance tab?

If not using WordPress Multi-Site (a Network admin can disable this function per site) or are actually using WordPress.Com and not WordPress.Org, then you are not admin if not seeing the appearance menu in the dashboard.

yes i have included a theme.

Has there been any progress on this ? I would love to do the same thing or is the solution to add the html directly into the code ?
