How to add to widgets and category template?

This is a nice little plugin that works well.
I’d like to use the output in other areas, such as at the bottom of a category page or in a sidebar widget. Because you are using a custom field to set the search term, I’m at a loss of how to write the PHP to accomplish what I want.
