How to add reading time to Yoast’s meta description?

    We have the latest version of the plugin installed, yet, the reading time isn’t showing up in the meta description.

    In the FAQ I am seeing there’s a way to remove the reading time from meta description, but how do we activate it?

    Yoast pulls in the excerpt for its auto-generated meta description. So if you have reading time set to show on the excerpt it gets pulled into the Yoast meta description.

    If you have custom Yoast meta descriptions set that likely won’t be the case.

    With custom meta descriptions you’d probably want to hook into Yoast’s wpseo_opengraph_desc filter and prepend the reading time to the description. That could theoretically be done with the shortcode as long as you can access the proper post ID from the wpseo_opengraph_desc filter.
