Says compat only to 3.6.1 but I have it working on later install..

Try Shortcode Ultimate…It has a menu system that you can pick certain options, like Display Posts, and then it creates the code for you. You just have to insert the Shortcode and it works. I put a list of my posts on my front page using this. It also has an option to place only one specific post on one page if that’s what you want to do.

@pioneer.. To Clarify, I’m not a coder either but with this Plugin I can grab existing code and change small things like size and color.
Using Firebug with this makes it much easier to change many of the coded options even though you are not a coder. It’s a nice intermediary solution..
