Hi, How do I get new WordPress users added to the WordPress list as Subscribed?

I’m sure this was working ok but now new users are being added as unconfirmed.

Mine is a membership site and all users accept our GDPR when joining, this explicitly states that they accept emails relating to the running of the site ( such as password resets etc ).

I do not want them to be able to unsubscribe to the emails ( they can do so by canceling their membership of course ). I do want to be able to send them simple emails like membership renewals being due. Definitely not marketing.

How can I do this? Was it Mailpoet v2 that allowed it? As I started with that then “upgraded” to v3.

    Thanks
    Alan

    OK a bit misleading.
I have found that my settings had been reset so that the Sign up confirmation had been reset to “Yes”. Setting it to “No” lets new members be added as Subscribed. So that is good.

However how do I change all my existing members? As soon as I install Mailpoet the lists are created before I get the chance to make sure the Sign Up Confirmation is set to No.

There doesn’t appear to be any way to change the existing users in bulk. Is there?

    Thanks
    Alan

    Hello @alanjacobs,

Thanks for writing. You can re-send the Confirmation Email to your ‘unconfirmed’ subscribers. See guide: https://kb.mailpoet.com/article/314-how-do-i-resend-the-confirmation-email

    Thanks but thaqt doesn’t help.

    1) Trying to resend a confirmation doesn’t actually work. Nothing is sent. Possibly because the members never had a confirmation in the first place?

    2) It still requires manually acting on every member. So not a bulk solution.

I can go and edit each member and change them to “Subscribed” ok. But it is tedious when there are a few hundred to do.

I have exactly the same problem: a membership site where members should always and automatically become Subscribed because the organization has a ‘legitimate interest’, as meant by the GDPR, in being able to reach the members by e-mail for important issues.

Different from @alanjacobs I do need the two-step sign-in, because I have certain lists, other than the members list, that non-members can subscribe to as well. However, if you can live without that, what about the following:

    1. export all subscribers to a file
    2. import that file again, but in the import settings specify “Subscribed”

That seems to be a working ‘bulk solution’.

    Ah obvious really! Thanks.
