    Hi,

I want to use Tracks but I have an issue with use of menu.

On the demo of the theme, we can see a menu on the left (in the post page) with category and tags. When I put a menu with category and tags, it’s display after the content of the post, and not on the left…

How I can do that ?

    Thanks a lot

    Hi Nathan,

The menu in the top-left in the demo site is added via the Secondary menu location.

You can create a menu from the Menus page (Appearance > Menus), and use the Categories section on the left side to add links to your categories to the menu: https://pics.competethemes.com/image/1j2x0J3w3f0U

Then, from the Manage Locations tab, you can assign the menu with the categories to the Secondary menu location: https://pics.competethemes.com/image/0R0L0i2l0C2H

Once complete, that menu will display in the top-left corner just like on the demo.

    Maybe you missunderstand my question

I talk about the menu on the left, on a post.. See the screenshot ??

    Thanks ??

    Ah okay I see ??

The categories and tags displayed there will be automatically taken from the post. So if you publish a post in the “Design” category, it will show a link to the Design category on the left side. Same with the tags.

    THanks for your answer,

But personnaly, the category and tags are after the post, before the author, not alone on the left;..

By default, the categories and tags will display after the post content. Tracks then compares the height of the content with the vertical space the categories and tags will occupy. If there is enough room, the categories and tags will be moved to the left side.

As an example, check out this post on the Tracks demo: https://www.competethemes.com/tracks-live-demo/2014/02/01/blogging-is-fun-and-worthwhile/. The content is very short, so the categories and tags stay below.

If you have a Post with a lot of content where the categories and tags are still not positioned to the left, could you share a link?

Other question, How I can add tags in this menu ? Because I haven’t this on my widget menu…

The categories/tags shown on the side are not menus for the whole site, but rather the categories/tags for the post being read so visitors can find similar content on your site. If you add tags to that post via the post editor, they will be shown on the left-side.

I add tag on my post, and category..

But As you can see, just category are display, not the tag…

And why the menu is not displaying on the left ?

    Thanks in advance

Okay I’m sorry they still aren’t showing. I’m going to need to login to debug this from the back-end. Could you make an admin account and send the password and username to [email protected]?

    Okay I’ll send this ??

    Got it, thanks!

I checked and it doesn’t look like the post has any tags added yet. They can be added with this box on the side of the post editor: https://pics.competethemes.com/image/2g44262I361y

Can you try adding a few and checking if they then show on the left side of the post?

    oups I forgot, sorry ^^

Now I have tags on the left, but not category, he stay after the post…

Great thanks. What’s happening is that Tracks doesn’t show the default Uncategorized category, since some users don’t use categories and don’t want that shown. Your default category has been renamed Photos and is being used, but is being excluded since it is the default category.

I have created a child theme that will allow your posts to show the Photos category. You can click here to download it.

Here are the steps for activating the child theme:

    1. Visit your site’s dashboard
    2. Go to the Appearance menu
    3. Click on the “Add New” button at the top of the page
    4. Click on the “Upload Theme” button at the top of the page
    5. Click on the “Choose File” button
    6. Select the tracks-child.zip file you downloaded from the link above
    7. Click “Install Now”
    8. Once the page reloads, click the blue “activate” link

If you’re using a custom menu, you will need to re-select its location from the Menus page.

As for the categories already showing after the post, this is coming from a widget in the After Post Content area. This may have been added by WordPress upon activating Tracks and can be removed via the Widgets menu (Appearance > Widgets).

    I’ll look into it

Thanks a lot for your reactivity

You’re welcome, let me know if you need any help with the child theme.
