How to add in a .mps file for Garmin MapSource GPS

    I am building a website for sailors and want to add in the Garmin MapSource files so they can be downloaded by the user and then uploaded into the Garmin MapSource GPS navigator on board the yacht. I tried to upload the files but got an error message saying that the file type was not allowed.

    Do I need a plugin to do this or do I need to make some changes somewhere in the theme to allow these files to be uploaded.
