how to add icon to specific navigation menu

Hi

I have my menu bar at the top of a page, like any other menu.

What I would like is to have, for particular menu items (lets say menu3 and menu 4 out of 6 menu items) to have additional text, for example a number.
but when we click on that menu it would disappear.

blue – the additional text on menu 3 and 4 (not clicked)
orange – after clicking menu 3 a check appears replacing the number
green – same as in orange but for menu 4

Does anyone know how cab I achieve this?
