How to add home page multiple recent post plugin?

    I am very sorry if the topic title is misleading or any information is misleading or if this has been posted before as well. I am also very sorry for my bad English.

    I am completely new to both web designing and WordPress. I am trying to create a home screen which looks like this link in screenshot . This pic was taken from the site technobuffalo

    I was wondering of there is any plugin for this or some free theme which supports it? Also what do you call it as?

    I dont know any programming so I would appreciate any help with proper instructions.
