How to add hCaptcha to a custom html form?

It is described in the FAQ section “How to add hCaptcha to an arbitrary form“.

Hi, I’m pretty new with wordpress in general.

I added the shortcode to my arbitrary form, but it doesn’t look like the form verifies the captcha even with [hcaptcha auto="true"].

on which part of WordPress should I add the verify logic?
