How to add featured post area on the home page?

    There are Plugins for featured content, you might try Featured Post Widget (or, similar).

    Otherwise, if you enjoy working with page templates and Custom Post Types, that is another way to go.
    For example: You have a Custom Post Type, Rainbow Featured, say, and you have a customized page template for your Home page. This home page template will feature two loops – one for your CPT, and one for your regular blog posts.
