How To Add Extra Options To The User Profile Options Page?

I would like to know how to add more fields or options to the WordPress user profile page (yoursite.com/wp-admin/profile.php).
I’m having a plugin built and I need some options added to the user profile page but the coder says he doesn’t know how to do that and I wanted to know where can I go to get more information on doing that so I can reference it.
I know it’s possible I’ve seen it done with other plugins, like Wishlist Member and Exec-PHP both screen shots below.
