How to add different jpg transitions to header

Hi guys,
I am using the Startup theme and am trying to have 5 jpgs transition in my header. I have got a animated gif file running perfectly but the problem is the animated gif file loses too much quality…….has anyone had any previous experiences in this area. What I want to do is have 5 jpgs transitioning between each other in the header.
