I’m sure this is pretty straightforward, and just demonstrates my lack of familiarity with the “new” site editor, but I have installed the twenty twenty three theme, and like it, but would like there to be a background image in the header area. Now, I think I may be using the terminology imprecisely — it looks like the header area is the thing that by default contains the site name and any pages. Adding a bkg image there might be what I want, or it might be adding a bkg image to the title-ish area (Mind blown… in the default), or maybe ideally an image behind *both* those things (1 image, that is). Are there any good tutorials for that? Thanks for any useful leads…

  • Hi @tastewar you can create a header with a background image using the cover block.

The cover block allows you to add a background image of your choosing + add any block on top of it. This is where the logo and menu would go.

However, there are some already-made designs for the header that you can use for your site. You can access them as shown in the short video below:

Thank you, @thelmachido — that definitely got me closer to where I want to be. I added a cover block, and moved my pseudo-title to text on top of it (there was a placeholder). On that piece of text, I can change many attributes, including horizontal alignment within its rectangle. But I am maddeningly incapable of figuring out how to move the text so it aligns with the bottom of the image. There is no vertical justification option, and there is no “handle” for me to grab to reposition the block — UI clues that I am accustomed to in other layout tools. Any ideas? the site is tastewar dot com and I am trying to move the text that’s over the header image down. Thanks again for helping me figure out how to add the cover block!

Hi @tastewar you can move the text above the cover block Mind over Matter: Stuff I cared about at the time using the dimension settings for the heading block. You can play around with the top padding as shown in the video below.

You can learn more about dimension settings in the article below:

Thank you, @thelmachido for taking the time to help me out, with the very specific screencasts. Much appreciated!!

Hi @tastewar I am glad that worked, thanks for the update
