How to add a 'readmore' button to home page flexislider

I have installed the ‘ergo’ theme and the flexislider on the home page template does not show limited text with a ‘readmore’ button when linked to an actually ‘page’ as a featured image. It only shows a ‘readmore’ button when a ‘post’ is linked as a featured image.

I need to link the main slider images to a page rather than a post because i want to be able to have ‘full width’ option and the ‘blog’ template does not allow this.

(note – the first 4 slides are ‘pages’ with the ‘readmore’ tags not showing. THe last 4 slides are ‘posts’ which show the ‘readmore’ button and limited text.)
