  • I have the same issue. Adding a horizontal filmstrip just adds the first image to the page with no gallery, no lightbox and certainly no horizontal filmstrip. And as John says, the shortcode works, but doesn’t give the pro gallery. Looking forward to an answer as well. Thanks!

Glad to know I am not he only one.

This happens both on my production as well dev sites…

With a clean base install of WP & NextGen + NextGen Pro all the same

Yeah, I have a pretty much clean local install as well. I tried a couple of themes thinking that the one I was using wasn’t compatible for some reason. I imagine it is some issue with WP 3.8. I don’t have any older ones to try it out on, though I suppose I could try an install of 3.7 – but that doesn’t really solve the problem either way.

There is either Limited Support or No Support until after the holidays…

I get when small things don’t work, and even bigger things when it is free. But paid software should be tested at least somewhat which this obviously hasn’t been. I have a very immediate need for this but will have to look for an alternative…

I am sure this is an easy fix since it can be easy reproduced

We are happy to look into why this is happening for you but please submit a Pro ticket at https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/support.

@iterentius, regarding your comment about it not being tested… That statement is the furthest from the truth. We test every update vigorously. Please refer to this article from Erick on testing and the amount of users experiencing issues: https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/open-letter-to-the-nextgen-community-from-erick-danzer/

So with all that said, it is more likely that a small group of users are experiencing 1 conflict since the issue is not one that all users are having. The trick is to find out what is causing the conflict.

    Hi Scott,

I’m sorry for my negativity, and sorry if I spoke out of turn, but the fact remains that both John and I have tried the basic directions for pretty basic feature in various installs and it didn’t work. I’m also a software developer and understand that things happen though. I appreciate your response and help articles. I’ll take a look at them. I imagine you can reproduce the problem as it is fairly easy to cause the issue. I’ll also submit a support ticket as requested.

I should note that I’ve used the free version for years and love it! This is why I purchased the pro version. That was the cause for my disappointment. I’d love to use the pro features when it is working!

    Thanks & Happy New Year,
    Isaac

    John (& Scott),

So, I’ve gone ahead and submitted a request. The response was basically that ‘some’ people have problems running it locally. I’m running on a pretty vanilla, yet up to date mac, running MAMP. I run many sites this way with many different plugins and frameworks. How is it that this one thing (only the NextGEN plugin) is broken, even in a clean local install of wordpress, but it can’t be figured out?

Yes, it works when migrated to a remote server. However, it is a virtual server that I configured 80% of myself and the difference between my local install and my remote install is minute as far as wordpress is concerned. And it doesn’t really fit into my workflow to always be working on the remote server.

All I’m really asking NextGEN is if someone could try to set up a local install on the mac, cause the problem (like John & I both have) and try and fix it. We can’t be the only ones who work locally and publish remotely.

I’m disappointed that I’ve paid $45 for this.

I gotten mine to work it seems some themes work and some do not, I found my theme I was running on my production site had an old, no longer supported/3.8 non-compatible. I changed to “Twenty Twelve” theme and it works for me know. (https://www.sluder.net)

I changed my local MAMP set up to use (https://www.sluder.net) as well and it works.

    Hi all,
just to clarify: after inserting a pro gallery (or other Pro displays) to a post or page using the standard NGG button, have you had a look how the insert shows on the live site or are you just looking at the post/page in WP editor?

This question just because NGG Pro shows only on single image in the editor regardless of what display type you may have selected (which is a serious problem within a wysiwyg edito), but displays the correct selected Pro gallery on the live post/page.

That was not 100% clear or a brain fart on my part but did not work with a older themes no matter what I tried, it did work if I hand code the short codes, but this did not allow for all the options that the NextGen offered

Since I ditched my old theme and upgraded to 3.8 compatible theme my site both dev and product are working fine now…

VesaT – I know what you are saying and yes, the problem still exists on my local install when viewing the actual page, not the editor where it launches the settings window. I’m going to see if I can watch for PHP errors in the console when I get a chance. I’ll see if I can give any more information about my local situation. Obviously something is different than the Ubuntu install on the virtual server that I migrated to, where it works properly. Maybe something with localhost and port numbers or something, who knows.
