How to add a news ticker ?

  • Hello,

    i’m new to wordpress & since i’m not familiar yet with all the layout files here i am !

    i’m looking for a way to add a news ticker (flash or ajax) either in the sidebar (this way it’ll appear on every single article/page of the blog) or only on the front page of the blog

    right now i’m using mimbo theme

    hey thanks for the quick answer !

    i was talking about something more like this : JonDesign’s Smooth Gallery a timed slideshow. i’ll use it to display a set of pictures (that one will be placed in the sidebar and it’ll appear in every page

    and for the front page i want to use an xml driven flash news ticker, like this one for example

    and since i really enjoy wordpress and its endless possibilities i’ll appreciate if you could give me a link some documentation on how to include headlines from other websites

    Hi, while I don’t have a direct suggestion for the engine to display the items, you might want to look at using my AWSOM News Anouncement plugin as the way to display the News/ticker. My plugin allows you to place a static area anywhere you want (by default it shows up on the index above your posts area, but it can be placed in sidebars or in posts/pages with a code) and it optionally allows php/javascript/code to run within it, so if you find a plugin that requires a theme code you can place that theme code into the news entry (which works like regular post entries) and have it work without needing to edit any theme files.

    I’ve seen numerous slideshow plugins that should work fine, plus any RSS readers would also work.
