How to add a featured content area on the 2010 theme

  • Hello,

    How can I add a featured content area on the 2010 theme, just below the navigation menu as shown in this image:

    I’m pretty sure this is a css issue but I do not know enough about css to even try this.

    Thesis has a featured content box like what is shown here: https://socialtriggers.com/ with the grey background, but I’m wondering if you can add a similar ‘box’ to my 2010 theme that goes the full width of the 940px theme.

    I would like for the “box” to have customization elements as well – if possible. Customizations like being able to have different background colors, border widths and colors & different heights – width to always be full width of the site – 940pixels.

    I am using a child theme (twentyten-child) and will be making any customizations there.
