How to access the query when clicking categories

  • When I click on a particular category, there is obviously a MySQL query run that returns the results and display posts in that category. I want to change what is returned. Where would I find that query?
    What I am trying to do is to only show posts regarding the category and exclude any subcategories if I use hierarchical categories.
