How not to affect the parent theme?

Hi all, I have created a child theme and made some edits to it, the site looks good, but when I activate the parent theme again it looks all messed up. As I understand my edits have affected the parent theme files.

Is it supposed to be this way? Is there a way to edit the child theme and not screw up the parent theme files?

The purpose of creating a child theme is not to screw up the parent theme.

As I understand my edits have affected the parent theme files.

Changes in child should not effect the parent theme.

See if clearing cache helps.

The cache clearing didn’t help.

When I edit the child theme’s CSS through “Simple Custom CSS and JS PRO” the parent theme is getting affected.
And even when I make changes to the content of a child page(without any coding), those changes are reflected in parent theme.

I’m very confused…

The problem is that any changes made to the child theme, even when I edit the content without coding, are reflected in parent theme.
