• I hoope this is the right place to post this.

I have read a few articles that warn about the dangers of people using too many plugins on their site… bugs, slow performance, etc

However, none of the articles actually put a number vale to “too many”

I’m currently under 10 and all the plugins have great reviews. I plan to stay as low as possible. I’m assuming this number is more than fine?

Sorry if this is a silly question but I’m new to WP.

  • I have 28 plugins inside a custom Twenty Twelve Child Theme on each of two sites…

Add From Server (for uploading and registering large files)
Admin Bar Minimiser (to help control the Admin bar)
    Akismet
    BulletProof Security
Chatroll Live Chat (embedded Chat widgets)
    CoolClock
    Fast Secure Contact Form
    Google XML Sitemaps
    Hotfix (not really necessary)
IE8 PwrdFix (my own plugin for showing the dots in the IE8 password box)
IE CSS3 Support (since Twenty Twelve needs some help there)
    Kwayy HTML Sitemap
Members (no longer really needed after making some custom roles)
    Peter’s Login Redirect
    Post Types Order
    Quotes Collection
Simple User Profile (to hide certain profile fields)
Standard Widget Extensions (to get a sticky Sidebar)
Theme-Check (not really necessary, but has no overhead)
Theme Authenticity Checker (TAC) (same as just-above)
    Theme My Login
    ThreeWP Activity Monitor
    Username Changer
    WebsiteDefender WordPress Security
    Wordfence Security
WP Admin No Show (in conjunction with Admin Bar Minimiser)
    WP Mail From II
    Wysija Newsletters

…but it took a while to sort through many plugins to do various things and learn to quickly get rid of any that cause even the slightest bit of trouble (including two I had purchased).

So then 10 plugins is considered a small amount I assume?

Opinions vary greatly, and there are many issues to be considered. If your site is doing what you want and your plugins are not dragging it down or causing trouble in your database, you might have just the right number. Ideally, I hope to some day have less than a dozen…but that will take some time and effort and likely cost me some money. So, I posted my large number here just to show you the number does not always have to be a deciding factor.

I don’t have any other plugins and only used two other widgets.

I have just looked at your webpage. Is it done with this plugin; and does it work? if it does there is something wrong on my side
