    Hi Everyone,

Just wondering how many people might be interested in a fork of this plugin? We’ve been using FireStorm for a number of our clients and like many of you, we can’t really afford to have it abandoned or unsupported.

We’re thinking about doing a fork similar to how NextGen Gallery was forked into NextCellent.

    We have 3 goals:

    1) Provide timely bug fixes and security patches, if applicable.

    2) Restore features that were originally there and then removed when the Pro version was created.

    3) Add new features.

Let me stress that we don’t have access (nor do we want) the Pro (paid) version. Everything we’re looking at doing will be based on either existing GPL code, new code that we write or code that others contribute.

If there’s enough demand, we’re completely willing to take on the initiative of a fork.

  • Hello.

I am not a WordPress plugin developer so I cannot code or re-code the plugin but I have an extensive experience in real estate industry and a client who purchased the Pro license on my recommendation before Wes decided to disappear from the face of earth.

I am also an experienced marketer and am willing to throw whatever I am capable behind forking the plug in. I did since search wide and hard and have not found a plug in that is of a quality and ease of install as Firestorm was before it got stripped and ripped and than abandoned from the creator.

I was hoping someone would be able to fork and update the plugin as well. I was going to put the bid on Freelance web site such as GAF or similar but needed more support and a group that can co-finance the cost of forking as I am not coder and would have to hire one to do this.

If you can code or re-code the source code or have any ideas of how to proceed with forking this plugin, I am open for suggestions.

    Ed.

    Hi Ed,

Unfortunately, there’s been virtually no response to my initial post…other than you (obviously). I’m not sure if people have completely given up and moved on or if responses will eventually trickle in over time.

I do have a team of programmers on staff so there’s no need to throw a bid on Freelance. I’m not sure how to recoup the development costs but maybe it’s via donations or paid support or something I haven’t thought of yet.

Regardless, the only thing stopping me from moving ahead is the demand to do so. For my particular clients, FireStorm works fine as is so I’m in no rush.

I am totally interested. We have hundreds of properties listed with this plugin and cannot afford do abandon it, either.

    Paradime,
I do need a programmer to help me with a problem with this plugin. I was going to use O-desk, but if you have programmers, can you please let me know how to get in touch with you and hire them?

Hi Everyone, if people would like to contact me directly, please e-mail [ redacted, support is not offered via email, Skype, IM etc. only in the forums ] (trying to avoid spam), I’ll contact you with my company information and we can take it from there.

    @mathmojo

What changes, updates or bugfixes are you looking for specifically? Certainly contact me and we can take it from there but also post your issues here to see if others are experiencing the same problems.

Our particular problem (this time) with the firestorm plugin is that our host as advised us that they’ve had to temporarily shut down or site several times because we’ve severely breached the limit on CPU use.

Here’s part of the email they sent us:

“a single hosting account may use no more than 25% of the entire server’s resources. Accounts are typically not actively restricted until they exceed those resource limitations exceptionally. Unfortunately, in this instance, we were forced to place a temporary restriction on your user to prevent service issues with the server’s over-all system performance.”

We’ve investigated it, and found, through using the p3 plugin profiler, that the problem probably is:
“A fatal error occurred during profiling: Allowed memory size of 83886080 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 49152 bytes) in file /fs-real-estate-plugin/fsrep_install.php on line 46”

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Brian

I am interested. I am sending you an e-mail so be on the lookout. I didn’t get to buy the pro version because by the time we decided to get it, his site was down. I have also had the allowed memory size exhausted error and had had to go increase it numerous times. I was getting ready to see if I could use Agency Pro from Studiopress but will not waste my time if there is something that can be done to salvage this plugin.

I use the plugin and would love to have issues fixed. I updated my WordPress and now NO LISTING will show up on the pages even though they are there. The short codes don’t work any more. Very frustrating.

@sylviarose Did you deactivate and reactivate the plugin a second time after it was updated? I had to do that every time there was an update.

    Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to mentioned that I did some quick Google searches and it appears that the author of this plugin passed away back in Jan 2014.

If confirmed, it’s very sad and also explains why there haven’t been any updates as well as the current state of his various web sites.

I would be interested. I am just now taking on a client whose site uses this plugin. They have a few years worth of history in the plugin and would love to keep using it. They are currently using WordPress 3.6, but I need to update them to 4.0. Does anyone know if there are any issues with this and WP 4?

I can confirm that the free (non-Pro) version works great with both WordPress 4.0 and 4.1.

Thanks for the reply. For me, I get these errors after the update

Warning: mysql_query(): Access denied for user ‘putmeont’@’localhost’ (using password: NO) in /home/putmeont/public_html/billgriffindev/wp-content/plugins/fs-real-estate-plugin/define.php on line 4

Warning: mysql_query(): A link to the server could not be established in /home/putmeont/public_html/billgriffindev/wp-content/plugins/fs-real-estate-plugin/define.php on line 4

Warning: mysql_fetch_array() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /home/putmeont/public_html/billgriffindev/wp-content/plugins/fs-real-estate-plugin/define.php on line 5

A few things I can suggest:

    1) Make sure you’re running FireStorm 2.7.11.

    2) Sometime after a WP update, it asks you to do a database update as well. Make sure you fo that.

    3) Make sure you’re running a newer version of PHP (such as 5.4).

    4) Check this thread:

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/21133686/warning-mysql-query-function-mysql-query-access-denied-for-user-localh

    5) Check previous support threads for this error and hopefully a solution.

Thanks for the suggestions! I checked the PHP version, and it was at 5.3…by updating to 5.4 that fixed it! Thanks for your help!

btw, do you know of any way to export the information for import into another system, like WPL? If this plugin won’t be maintained, I’m pretty sure my client will want to move to something else. Also, I sent you an email earlier today to the email address you had posted at the beginning of this thread.

    Thanks again!
