• I was wondering – how many categories can you have? And if WordPress does subcategories, how many subcategories can a category have?

If you have more than a certain amount, does it start slowing down?

Come to think of it, how many posts can WordPress handle before slowing down? How many users?

I use NearlyFreeSpeech.net, if that helps.

  • I read somewhere the other day that WP allows for 100 categories, not sure if subcategories are counted in that as well, but we will assume they are.

Posts are most likely unlimited (depending on your hosting)

I would imagine that you can have as many categories as you like! The database is perfectly capable of it, the only thing limiting your usage would be how much diskspace you have on your hosting plan, since the database files will count towards that. But to add a new category takes up hardly any space at all, so it’s not really anything to worry about.

It allows for an unlimited amount. The short-coming is only x are shown on the Write -> Posts page.
